How ‘Bob’s Burgers‘ Invented Hating Avocado Toast: An Oral History

These divisive times deserve an equally divisive food, one that’s become shorthand for millennial frivolity and has fractured society along generational fault lines. That food is avocado toast, a simple combination of simple ingredients that has a complicated resume. The alternately delectable and disgusting food trend has been blamed for everything from a crime wave in Chile to apparently making retirement better for Baby Boomers. Once an accident concocted in a kitchen by a guy that ran out of jelly and felt no shame about pilfering his roommate’s fresh avocado (at least that’s what I assume), avocado toast is the go-to punchline for literally everyone wishing to dunk on 20-somethings.
