Back in August, The New & Observer posted a great article on the development of adult-friendly animation and how it has changed over the years.
They talk about the family-friendly era of The Flintstone and The Jetsons, to the edgier era of The Simpsons, to the much more adult humor era of South Park and Family Guy, all the way to the current era of more thought-provoking humor of Rick & Morty and BoJack Horseman. It’s a really good look into the history of cartoons for adults.
